This shirt honors a powerful moment in our tribal history. In 1958, Mrs. Leon W. Anderson, then 71 years old and known in Halifax County as a respected historian and genealogist, testified to the long-standing presence of our people with the words:
"All my life, I've heard mention of those Indians up in The Meadows."
Her statement came seven years before the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe received reaffirmation of our Sovereignty in 1965. It stands as proof that our identity as Indian people was already known and acknowledged by those around us—long before it was formally recognized.
The front of the shirt features the Meadows Indians logo on the left chest, representing pride, heritage, and connection to the land. The back carries Mrs. Anderson’s quote as a tribute to the generations who lived, loved, and persevered in The Meadows.
This design is more than a shirt. It’s a marker in history, a reflection of pride, and a reminder that our story didn’t just begin with recognition—it began with community.
